Swallowtail Butterfly Jewelry Dish with Fennel Flower and Gold Accent

This ceramic dish features a beautiful handpainted Swallowtail butterfly hovering near a fennel flower, the food of swallowtail caterpillars. Every year, my fennel is host to swallowtail butterflies and caterpillars and it's an honor watching their life cycle up close. This dish is special place for jewelry, trinkets, a special ring, or an incense cone. The ceramic dish is accented with real 22kt gold.
This butterfly ceramic dish is made from smooth porcelain-like stoneware clay, dried, bisque fired, glazed, and high-fired once more at approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. The butterfly is sculpted carefully by hand and then painted by hand with ceramic underglazes before being fired in the kiln to full vitrification. The glaze is a glossy warm white with the beauty of a high fired ceramic, showing off the intricate detail of the frond, flower, and the gorgeous wings of the butterfly . A real 22kt gold overglaze is applied and then fired a third time to bond the gold to the piece. It is a labor intensive process that is worth the extra step.

These ceramics are individually made by hand from start to finish, and slight variations and organic shapes are what makes them unique pieces of art..
