Sage Leaves in Peacock Blues, Ceramic Dish with Gold Accent
Throughout time, sage has represented wisdom, medicine, and purification. It connects us to the generations before that have used it in cooking, in healing, and in traditions and ceremonies. This ceramic jewelry holder is covered with beautiful sage leaves with a fantasy of blues and green crackled glazes - and a real 22kt gold accent on the rim. Handmade from start to finish, using leaves from my own garden, creating a special spot for your rings, earrings, other jewelry, or just for display.
This ceramic dish is made from smooth porcelain-like stoneware clay, dried, bisque fired, glazed, and kiln-fired once more at approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. The leaves are imprinted in the clay from an actual sage leaves. The ceramic dish is then handpainted with shades of green and blue underglazes, then coatings of specially formulated glaze that results in this beautiful crackle finish in the kiln. The crackled glaze gives a feeling of an antique, of dreamy nostalgia. Please note that crackled glazes are not classified as food safe because of the fine cracks that can hold moisture.
Real gold is applied to the rim in a special process designed for ceramics, and the piece is fired a third time to bond the gold. It's a labor intensive process with a beautiful result.
