Tiny Duck and Duckling on A Sparkling Pond, Ceramic Dish with Gold Accents
White ducks symbolize happiness and joy in life. They represent tranquility as they float in calm waters and go with the flow. Their ducklings are cute and yellow - this little one adding the spirit of new beginnings. The little duckling swims safely next to mom, both protected in this serene little blue pond surrounded by beautiful leaves
The piece begins with the imprint of a real fern leaves that encircle a little pond - once the dish is sculpted, the tiny duck and ever tinier duckling are sculpted from the same clay and joined to the dish. After a preliminary kiln firing, I apply the colors and glaze, followed by a second and higher temperature firing (this one over 2200 F). Real 22kt gold accents are applied by hand and the piece is kiln fired a third time to melt and bond the gold. It's a labor-intensive process with unique results.
The dish is approximately 5 inches in diameter. Please allow slight variations and imperfections which make these handmade sculptures as unique as a fingerprint.
