Tiny Duck on A Sparkling Pond, Ceramic Dish with Gold Accents
White ducks symbolize happiness and joy in life. They represent tranquility as they float in calm waters and go with the flow. The jewelry dish here is a tiny pond surrounded by tall grasses - the "pond" is the imprint of a beautiful Nasturtium leaf. The tiny duck floats in the center, safely surrounded by beautiful greens and hand painted grasses.
The piece begins with the imprint of a Nasturtium leaf - once the dish is sculpted, the tiny duck is sculpted from the same clay and joined to the dish. After a preliminary kiln firing, I apply the colors and glaze, followed by a second and higher temperature firing (this one over 2200 F). Real 22kt gold accents are applied by hand and the piece is kiln fired a third time to melt and bond the gold. It's a labor-intensive process with unique results.
The dish is approximately 5 inches in diameter. Please allow slight variations and imperfections which make these handmade sculptures as unique as a fingerprint.
