Luna Moth Jewelry Dish with Sweetgum Leaf and Gold Accent

The Luna moth is named after the Latin word for moon, "luna" which is perfect given the magical and mystical nature of this moth. The luna moth reminds us to always seek the light, whether that light is truth or knowledge or awareness of self.
This ceramic dish features a beautiful handpainted Luna moth hovering over the imprint of a real Sweetgum (Liquidambar) tree leaf. This star-shaped Sweetgum leaf is one of the Luna moth's favorites. This dish is special place for jewelry, trinkets, a special ring, or an incense cone. The ceramic dish is accented with real 22kt gold.
This Luna moth ceramic dish is made from smooth porcelain-like stoneware clay, dried, bisque fired, glazed, and high-fired once more at approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. The Luna moth is sculpted carefully by hand and then painted by hand with ceramic underglazes before being fired in the kiln to full vitrification. The glaze is a glossy warm white with the beauty of a high fired ceramic, showing off the intricate detail of the Sweetgum leaf and the gorgeous wings of the Luna. A real 22kt gold overglaze is applied and then fired a third time to bond the gold to the piece. It is a labor intensive process that is worth the extra step.

These ceramics are individually made by hand from start to finish, and slight variations and organic shapes are what makes them unique pieces of art. Please be careful of the Luna's delicate sculpted wing tails - they are durable kiln-fired ceramic but can still be broken if something hard is knocked against them.
